Adding Some Glam

Hello Friends! Can you believe that it is already November? I have to admit, I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around it. It sure seemed to sneak up on me. I’m getting excited to celebrate the holidays but before I start pulling out my mound of boxes filled with holiday decor, I wanted to make some changes to my everyday decor. More specifically, I wanted to change some light fixtures in our home.

We built our home over sixteen years ago and while it was fun (and I use that word loosely) to pick out every. single. thing. that needed to go in our home (within a very tight budget) it also was a bit overwhelming. I tried to pick out things that I loved but also was somewhat timeless as not to go out of style real quick.

Picking out light fixtures was especially challenging to me because finding lights that I liked for an entire house was almost impossible. I think I did okay for the most part but after sixteen years, I’ve kind of grown tired of them. Also, on a side note, some members of my family called them “boob lights” (and you know who you are.) That being said, I can’t “unsee” that now. I made a plan to replace our lights gradually as I found ones that I liked. The first one to go was the light in our foyer…mostly because it was “the saggy boob light”. (And now you can’t unsee it either…you’re welcome.)

I kind of knew what I was looking for but I also knew that it wouldn’t be easy to find. I wanted to find something with a little bling to it and something that was vintage. I love the look of rustic farmhouse mixed with a touch of glam. The mix of the two gets me in the ol ticker.

I found a light on a Facebook page that seemed to be perfect and the price was wonderful. Most of the lights that I’ve seen like this run well over $100 and I found this one for $35. I already knew that I didn’t want to use the lampshades and with a little cleaning, it would be beautiful!

So cleaning this little gem was a bit tedious. I had removed each and every crystal and washed them by hand with dish soap and gave them a rinse with a mixture of water and ammonia to reduce spotting.

I wiped down the entire fixture with a damp rag using pine sol and water to get rid of the years of dust that collected on it. Then I went back and replaced every crystal on the chandelier.

We took down the “saggy boob light” and hung our new beauty in it’s place. I LOVE IT!!! It sparkles in all the right ways. I love that it adds a little feminine touch to our chippy home too!

As a bonus, the couple we purchased our light from was a treat to meet. They were in the process of remodeling their home and were sweet enough to give us a little tour of their home to show us all the work they had done. Funny enough, they were going into more of a modern look. Maybe I should have asked them if they were interested in a “saggy boob light” to go with their new look.

Well, one boob down and many more to go.

Hope you all have a wonderful day and thanks for stopping by!

Love,
