The Power of Paint

Hello Friends! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Ours was really great! Of course we ate way too much but everything was so delicious! Everyone brought a couple of dishes so we had a yummy variety and I have to say, there isn’t one bad cook in the family! We ended our evening with all of the kids singing a variety of songs while my middle son played his guitar as we sat around the kitchen table. It was very entertaining! The Jackson Five had nothing on this group! haha

Do you remember on a previous post when I said that I wanted to decorate for Christmas but first I wanted to get some projects done that were on my to do list? Well, changing the hooks out in  my foyer was one of those things. Since changing out our light fixture in the foyer that was spurred by a vision that I couldn’t get out of my head. (You can read more about that here.) one thing makes you want to change another. This was the case with the hooks.

I had made a hook rack using an old board and some hooks but it always bugged me because I felt like it looked a little cheap. Now that I had a fancier light in the foyer, I felt like I wanted the hooks to coordinate.

I recently purchased a metal hook rack from a yard sale for $1.00. I loved the shape and size of it. I especially loved that each of the hooks were numbered. What I didn’t love about it was the color. Well, let me back up a minute. It was a pretty greenish blue but a little on the bright side. It also had some distressing on it but the kind that looks too artificial for me, not like it happened over time. (This is where I wished I had taken a before picture…sorry about that.)  Overall, it was cute and would have looked nice in a little girl’s room but a bit too bright for my home. Therefore, it was going in the shop.

But… the more I looked at the hook, the more I was loving it, if only it were a different color. That’s when I raided my paint stash. I had a can of Rustoleum spray paint in the color Antique Brass. I thought I would give it a whirl. I had to tape over the numbers with Frog Tape since they wouldn’t slide out of the top… just my luck. I gave it a good coat of paint let it dry. I lightly spattered it with Oil Rubbed Bronze and Antique Gold spray paint and called it done.

I really like the  way it turned out. It gives our foyer a bit of vintage glam to go with our new vintage chandelier. I love it way more than the hooks that we had in the foyer.

If you like a piece whether it’s a piece of furniture or a decor piece but don’t care for the color, try painting it. It’s a game changer.
