Laundry Room Door

Everyone has some dirty laundry…am I right? The laundry room is probably one of the most used rooms in a house and is probably one of the most dreaded rooms to go into…unless you like doing laundry that is.

Our laundry room is in major need of a makeover. It’s been through raising three boys and countless loads of laundry. As our nest started to empty and the loads of laundry were becoming fewer, I began to notice more of the room that had taken a beating. I have some ideas that I would like to try but for now other priorities have taken precedence. Once I achieve that goal, I will definitely share it with all of you but for now, I’m just going to close the door on my dirty laundry. Now that’s not to say that the door shouldn’t be good looking. I mean, if you’re going to hide your laundry, you might as well do it with style. haha

Here is the door at the estate sale.

My husband and I found the most beautiful door that I had ever seen at an estate sale. It was pricier than my road side finds normally are but let me tell you, this one was worth it. I kept going up and back in my head about whether or not to purchase it but when the measurements of the door turned out to be the exact measurements of my laundry room door then I felt like it was meant to be.

I had always envisioned a laundry room door with a glass window and the wood detail made me swoon.

Let me also mention that My Guy wins husband of the year for this project because anyone that deals with antique things knows that they aren’t always meant for newer spaces. That being said, he had to change out the hinges to fit our door which included plugging some old holes.

Here’s a little woodworking hack: To fill a hole in an old door, push a wooden golf tee in the hole as far as it will go and break it off.

Give a couple of taps with the hammer.

Then chisel any wood left on top to make it even with the door.

Brilliant!

He also had to flip around the hardware which was a little more complicated being that it was vintage but it works like a charm.

I have yet to be locked in or out of our laundry room.

The view from inside the laundry room.

I took off the curtain that came with the door and covered the inside of the glass with clear contact paper which gave it a frosted glass look.

Once we do our laundry room make over, I might take that off but for now it’s definitely hiding the mess. I also have plans to add some black lettering that says “LAUNDRY”.

I absolutely love the way this turned out. I almost don’t even mind going in there to do laundry…almost.
