Let Freedom Ring

Hello Friends! Happy Fourth of July! I don’t know what is about getting older that makes me appreciate things more than I did when I was younger. Maybe it has to do with experiencing things that made me wiser or the fact that life seems to go by faster which makes me want to slow things down and reflect on what is important.

That is exactly how I feel about Independence Day. When I was younger, I looked at it more as a day for cookouts and fireworks. Don’t get me wrong, I still look forward to both of those things but for some reason, the older I get, the more I truly appreciate what our country stands for.

This past election year seems very different than years past. There seems to be a lot of controversy about what our country “needs” to thrive. It will be interesting to see what will come of all of this. With all of that being said, I’m truly appreciative of the freedom that we have living in this great country. I’m grateful to our military for keeping us safe and I love that we are able to express what we believe in.

The older I have gotten, the more I have realized that I actually get excited about the Fourth of July. I look forward to hanging our flag from our front porch. One flag has turned into a collection of flags waving proudly from planters and doors.

I love the way the decorative grass in the window boxes resemble fireworks.

Buntings adorn windows and vintage flags hang from ladders.

I still look forward to our cookout and decorate with as much red, white and blue as I can find.

At the end of the night, when the fireworks are booming overhead, I reflect on just how blessed I am to live here. So break out your red, white and blue and come celebrate this great country that we can proudly call home!
