Off The Beaten Path

Before life went crazy and a pandemic broke out, my husband had a rare Friday off of work so we decided to take a little road trip to a neighboring town to check out some of the little antique shops. We had never visited that downtown area so it was exciting to see what we could find. When we walked into the first shop, I ran into a friend from my hometown who also happens to be a vendor at a local antique shop in our town. I didn’t realize that she had another booth at the shop we had walked into. I should say that she “had” a booth there because she and another friend were in the process of moving into another space across town. They had asked me if I would be interested in expanding the space I have in our town and open another one in the shop they were moving to. They suggested that I check it out so my husband and a I decided that we would meet them there after lunch.

After browsing around the town a bit and grabbing a bite to eat, we stopped into the new shop. The shop was quaint and old with a lot of potential. I’m not sure if it will be a good fit for me yet but it’s definitely something to think about. Anyhow, as my friend and her friend were moving into their new space, they had unloaded this beautiful wooden antique door that came from a historic home.

I had been looking for an old door to replace the door that leads up to my studio above our garage.

I wasn’t just looking for any door either. I wanted one with a lot of glass to let the sunlight shine through.

We have a large double window at the top of the stairs that gives off the most beautiful light but we couldn’t see it due to the door always being shut at the bottom of the stairs.

Being patient pays off because we got a really good deal on it and it’s perfect for what we were looking for. All of the wood is in perfect condition and it has the original old wavy glass. I am smitten with it!

My husband was a trooper and hung it as soon as we got home which I appreciated so much! I love the character of old homes and this definitely gives our home more character. I’m still looking for an old door for our pantry and another for our office. (The white door to the right) Once again, I will be patient for the right door and I’m sure it will pay off. What do you think? Do you like old doors? Are you a fan of old architecture and quirky character of old homes? Leave a comment below! I would love to hear from you.

Thanks again for stopping by! It means so much!
