Getting Cozy on the Front Porch

Well hello there. How are things with you?

Lately we have started a million projects and have yet to complete them all. That kind of seems like how I do things lately…or always. It’s not like we haven’t completed some projects but we usually start another before finishing the previous one. Just call me Captain ADD…which goes along with my slight case of OCD and every other letter in the alphabet that I may have. The problem is that my mind won’t shut off. I’m constantly thinking of new things that I would like to do and depending on the time frame available, dictates what gets done…or started.

I have had a plan for adding a large window to the side of our front porch for well over 5 years. I had collected several old windows that I had planned on piecing together to make a large window and attach it to our porch to make it look more like an outdoor room. Well the good thing about procrastinating is that sometimes a better plan comes along. Fast forward 5 years and we’ve finally decided to put this project to bed.

I found a super large window on a buy sell trade ad so My Guy and I took a road trip to pick it up. I love it! I think it will be sturdier to have one large window than several windows pieced together. I really kind of liked the old chippy look that it had on it but since it was going to be attached to our porch and out in the elements, I wanted to give a good coat of outdoor white paint to help protect it from rotting and make it blend well with the rest of the porch.

We built and frame using 2 X 4 boards and attached the window to the inside of it. We added some trim around it and Boom! Instant charm!

Okay, I say “Boom!” like this project went smoothly but if I’m being honest, we did have a couple of “measure once, cut twice” moments…and back to the hardware store we go. It was worth it. I really love it. It turned out just like I had envisioned.

I think it adds a little coziness to the porch and blocks the wind a bit on blustery days. How do I know this you ask? That would be because we started this project on a warm spring day and finished it on a blustery, sleeting spring day. Brrrrr….you’ve got to love the weather in North Carolina.

What do you think?

Wishing you all lots of sunshine and warm days!

Love,
