Hold On To Your Drawers

Hello Friends! How are things on your end? All is well here. I definitely have no complaints. There’s no doubt that 2020 has been a doozy but with all things in life, you just try to keep going and make the best of everything.

That’s not to say that things haven’t been different or a bit more difficult because they have. For example, junking has almost come to a screeching halt around here. I do a lot of that to keep my little shop going but when Covid hit, everything kind of shut down. We’ve recently started going out again but the pickings have been slim. I told my husband that it almost wasn’t worth spending the gas to go but then…it happened. I found a piece that I have been looking for, for what seems like a lifetime.

It was our last stop of the day and I had just about given up hope of finding treasures when we saw this medicine cabinet. Actually, we only saw the side of it because it was pushed up against a shelf. My husband was the one who pointed it out to me. (He knew I had been wanting one for awhile.)

It was in wonderful shape and seemed really solid. The only thing I didn’t care for was the orangey color and that it was pretty shiny. I assumed that it was made of oak due to it’s coloring.

Once we got it home, I began sanding it down the next day using a circular sander and my little mouse sander.

To my surprise, it wasn’t oak at all. To be honest, I’m not really sure what kind of wood it is.

I thought maybe pine but it has a different, most wonderful smell to it and such beautiful wood knots which I am a total sucker for.

Once it was sanded, I used Varathane Matte Polyurethane as a top coat and that was it. It darkened it up just enough and still let the natural wood grain show through.

I am absolutely in love with it. Of course, it went into our foyer which then turned into us moving that dresser into our bedroom and moving our old dresser out…because you know that one thing always leads to another.

I guess this means that I shouldn’t give up on junking yet. I’m just going to have to work a little harder at it.

Have a wonderful day friends and as always, thanks for stopping by! It means the absolute world to me!
