Knock, Knock…

Hey Friends! I hope life is treating you well. My Guy and I took a little road trip a couple of weekends ago in search for a wooden door. I wanted a wooden front door when we first built our home fifteen years ago but for whatever reason, we went with a regular builder grade door instead. While scouting out the Buy, Sell, Trade on Facebook one day, I found a door that was the exact measurements of our front door and the price was only a fraction of what it would cost new. Seems like it was meant to be so off we went on our road trip.

The weather was perfect with a little chill in the air and the sun shining perfectly through the trees. It was such a nice drive.

There happened to be a pumpkin festival going on in the town that we traveled to. You never know what you will see on these spontaneous road trips.

My Guy was quite confident about the installation of our new door. “One hour tops” is what I was quoted, I believe. So that turned into one and a half days but who’s counting? You can’t rush a good thing.

My Guy did a wonderful job cutting the door to size and lining up the hinges to perfection.

(Ignore the step ladder in the photo. This was definitely a work in progress.)

Our number one son, Damon, came to visit that evening and gave us a hand installing the door hardware.

(Guess how many times I vacuumed up the sawdust on the floor…Ugh!!!)

He brought over this cool little gadget that is used as a template for installing the door knob and lining it up just right with the strike plate. Whoever invented this was a genius!

Speaking of genius…Damon is our first born of three boys. I’m so incredibly proud of all of my boys and will try to keep all the mom gushy stuff to a minimum (for now)  but lets just say that I’m truly blessed when it comes to my kids. I’m going to write a post later to introduce my boys but for now, here’s my oldest son in all his awesomeness.

Also, I should add that is My Guy is behind door number two. Well, at least his arm. I don’t have permission to show his handsome face yet. He’s so camera shy! Baby steps…by the time it’s all said and done, he’ll be photobombing my pictures.

My Guy and I went to bed that night feeling pretty darn proud of ourselves for installing the door. We did a fine job if I say so myself…that is until we woke up the next morning. It’s amazing what a little sunlight will do to shed some light on a project. Overall, we did a good job however once the sun came out, it was clear that we had some gaps that needed filling. It just took some new weather-stripping and we were good to go.

It took me a few days to decide what color to stain the door and for the weather to cooperate. I should also add that I was trying to decide on a stain color that will match our new house color once that happens.

I chose Provincial by Minwax. I am in love with this color lately. It’s a warm brown without being too dark. I really liked how it turned out.

I’m pretty excited about the finished look. I can’t wait to redo our porch now. I have a few ideas that I’m looking forward to doing. I’ll share more of that once it gets off the ground. It will probably be awhile before we paint our house but in my mind, it’s turning out pretty darn good!

Have a wonderful week Friends!
