Put On A Pedestal

Hello Friends! What have you all been up to? Life here seems to be in the fast lane and I probably need to take it down a notch before I shut down altogether. That’s all easier said than done, right? If I could add about six more hours to a day, I would but I probably still wouldn’t get everything done that I wish I could. I’m sure you all could relate.

This past weekend, I really wanted to sleep in. My Guy and I stayed up late on Friday night and my bed was feeling a bit like heaven. However, My Guy had asked if I wanted to go yard saling in the morning. Ordinarily, I would be quite excited to venture off on a treasure hunt but like I said, I feel like I have been burning the candle on both ends. So of course I said, “yes” because I’m a shmuck who doesn’t listen to what her body tells her.

My alarm went off far too early. I dragged myself out of bed and to the bathroom where I gave myself a little pep talk about all of the treasures that were out there just waiting for me to find them. You see, I don’t just look for treasures for my home but rather for my little shop in town. If I don’t keep that stocked then I feel like I have let not only myself down but my awesome customers as well. So off I went to get myself ready. I then proceeded to try to wake My Guy up, only he was having none of it. He too was having a hard time getting himself out of bed. I know, most people at this point would have just jumped back in bed and threw the covers over their heads…no…not me…I might be missing the deal of a life time.

After yanking My Guy out of bed, we dragged ourselves to the truck with coffee mugs in hand and began our route. Anyone who yardsales knows that some weekends are wonderful and filled with so many finds and others are a complete bust. This was one of those BUST weekends. The kind that made me want to punch myself in the face for getting out of bed. After a couple of hours scouring the town, we decided to head home but made one last stop. It was there that I found the little treasure that made our trip worth it.

I wish I had taken a picture of the home that we stopped at. It was a beautiful soft green Victorian home with a gorgeous wooden door. Oh how I wanted to peek in their windows…That’s not a bit creepy at all. For the record, I didn’t look in their windows. I did however see a cute little pedestal table sitting in their front yard just waiting for me to take it home. After My Guy did some negotiating, we did just that.

It was a very solid table but painted and covered with mold and dirt. Not enough to scare me though.

Of course I forgot to take a complete before shot but I did get a picture of the base. See how dirty it was?

I scrubbed it down and painted the base with a primer to make sure it blocked any mold that may have been left behind. Then I painted the base a soft white.

I stripped the table top and sanded it down a bit to remove any paint.

After wiping it down, I gave it two coats of Provincial stain by Minwax.

I allowed it to dry overnight before finishing it with two coats of Minwax sealer in matte finish.

I love how it brings out the wood grain and the butcher block top is gorgeous!

Tada!!! This little gem was worth the trip.

I would love to use it as an end table but it’s a bit too tall. I’m still debating on cutting it down to make it a bit shorter or bringing it into the shop for someone else to enjoy.

I may live with it for a while until I make up my mind or find something that is a better fit.

Hope you all have a fantastic week! Thanks for stopping by!
