Behind Curtain Number Two

Hello Everyone! How’s everything going? Are you getting into that spring mood? The weather has been crazy here. It’s been close to 80 degrees one day and 40 something the next. It pays to keep your flip flops next to your scarves in NC. All of that being said, I’m still getting into the spring mood and ready to clean things up and make it lighter and brighter.

I mentioned in a previous post that if you take a picture of a room in your house and take a good look at it, it’s much easier to see what doesn’t go together. I realized after taking a picture of my living room that my curtains didn’t really go with my furniture. One would think that it would be easy to see immediately but sometimes I think we just get used to what we have.

I had purchased some new furniture not too long ago to replace our furniture that we had for far too long. My old furniture was cream-colored and this time we went with more gray tones therefore the burlap curtains didn’t really go anymore.

I wanted to go a little lighter and brighter and definitely wanted to keep it within budget. I did a post a while back about making curtains out of drop cloths. If you didn’t catch it, you can read it here. I loved the way they turned out so much that I wanted to do it again in our living room.

You can purchase drop cloths from any hardware store. I bought mine from Home Depot. I will say that the drop cloth colors may vary a bit depending on which store you buy them from and sometimes even at the same store so if you are purchasing several, you might want to make sure that your colors match.

I purchased four 6 X 9 drop cloths for our living room. We have two single windows and one double window. I used one curtain per window. For the single windows, I cut the curtain in half so that it measured 3 X 9.

I hemmed the cut edge to give it a finished look but just folded the top over and used curtain rings with clips on them. For the double windows, I used one full 6 X 9 drop cloth and just folded over the top and clipped them onto the curtain rings.

Let me tell you folks…I love the way these turned out!!!

I love the color of them. They make the room look brighter and lighter and yet they provide privacy too since they are rather thick.

I also love that they were easy to make/hang since my sewing skills are pretty basic and best of all, totally within our budget.

What do you think?

Next on my list is to find a new rug. That will be a pricier fix so I will be taking my time to find “the right one”.

Hope you all have a great week! Stay warm…or cool…depending on where you live and if you live in North Carolina, do both!!!

Love ya!
