Luck O’ The Irish

Hey there! Are you feeling lucky? I know that I’m a bit early to be talking about St. Patrick’s Day but I love this holiday!!! Maybe it’s because I’m part Irish. Maybe it’s because I grew up in Illinois and it was kind of a big deal.

Maybe it’s just because I like a reason to celebrate. Whatever it is, I’m happy that it’s almost here.

I don’t go crazy with decorating for St. Patrick’s Day but I do like to add lots of green around the house.

Every year for St. Patrick’s Day I gather our entire family for our traditional St. Patrick’s Day dinner. Growing up, it was always tradition to have corned beef, potatoes and cabbage. Once I had a family of my own, I put a new twist on it and we have Reuben sandwiches with potato chips. That covers the corned beef, potatoes and cabbage tradition.

Did I mention that you had better wear green or you will definitely get pinched?

I am married to a man who is 50% British, 25% Irish and 25% Italian. Anyone who is Italian or knows someone who is Italian knows that the percentage of being Italian doesn’t matter. If you’re a smidge Italian, you’re 100% Italian. (At least according to the people who I know.)

Now on my side of the family, we are quite the mix of things but one of those things is Irish and I’m crazy proud of that. That means that my three sons have a larger amount of Irish in them than just about any other nationality but with a long Italian last name, ba da boom…they’re Italian!

I’m kidding. I think they are proud to be Irish too. They play along every St. Patrick’s Day, showing up in green to eat our traditional dinner together while listening to Come On Eileen by Dexy’s Midnight Runners playing in the background. (Someone was an 80″s girl.)

It might sound crazy but St. Patrick’s Day is one of my favorite holidays. I’m not even sure why other than the fact that it gives me a good reason to celebrate our heritage, get together with our family and eat good food. Whether you are Irish or not, make it a reason to celebrate!

Wishing you a very Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!!

Love you all,
