Seeing The Beauty In The Ugly

Hello Everyone! I’m back this week with another junk find!

My Guy and I have been hitting the road on weekends doing some yard saling. We have been having a really good time and meeting some really nice people. It’s been a great way to spend some quality time together and find some goodies too.

This particular weekend, it was hard to get out of bed since we had celebrated our son’s birthday the night before but it was worth it. We didn’t find a ton of stuff but I really liked what we did find.

We didn’t have a plan as to where we were going, we just followed whatever signs that we came across which took us out to some beautiful country scenes. That alone was worth getting up so early.

We happened upon a sale that was an estate/yard sale which meant that almost everything in the house was for sale. The yard was filled with people to the point where it was almost hard to see anything. My Guy and I headed for the garage (his favorite spot). Actually, I kind of favor the garages too. That’s usually where what some people call junk, I call hidden treasures. While My Guy was making his way to the tools and extension cords, I spotted a pile of old windows under a work bench. I love old windows and they’re big sellers at our shop. As we were negotiating a price for the windows, I had asked the girl if the work bench was for sale. The look on My Guy’s face was priceless. It was a combination of “are you serious?” and “have you lost your mind?”. The answer to that is, “probably.” It was a beautiful table to me that measured a little over 7 1/2 feet long and made of really old wood.

You could see years worth of projects done on this table and I could definitely see the potential in it. Do you remember my post on our five dollar workbench? How could he doubt me?

Now let me say that My Guy is a good sport. I know I have said that before but he really is. We had to wake up early the next morning to pick our table up since it was full of other things and needed to be emptied before we could take it. Once we brought it home, he hooked up the power washer so that I could blast most of the gunk off of it.

I had to use some stripper to get the thick paint off of the top…her name was Lola…I’m kidding. That was a bad joke. Seriously though, the paint on the table was super thick so I wanted to take it down a notch.

I loved the white chippy look of it and wanted the whole table to have that look.

I used milk paint to paint the entire table which allowed the paint to flake off in all the right places.

It will probably make it’s way into our shop as a display table but for now it is living on our side porch and I’m loving it!

I love taking someone’s junk and finding the beauty in it. I also like that whatever it is that we find, it gets a second chance and it’s story lives on.

Have you rescued any junk lately? If so, share below in the comments! I would love to hear about it!

Happy Hunting!
